I grew up listening to Motown I lived on the west side Detroit I remember the concert at the Fox theater is there way ordering copy of any materials The Motown Revue
On Saturdays during the winter months, used to take the bus once in awhile to go downtown from home near 8 Mile Road on the east side of Detroit to catch a first run, Satuday matinee movie. Serendipitously, I was walking past the Fox theatre (near a favorite magic shop) and noted on the marquee a double-feature and these live musical acts of the Motown Review, all for $2.50, which was my weekly high school lunch money. Well, I caught both movies and then the show started and WOW!!! A great show!
I recall the manager of this little kid, a Stevie Wonder, ushering him across the stage to a seat at a grand piano (which was a little strange), where the young boy began to dazzle the audience. Loved the male groups as they danced in unison while they sung and the female harmonies were supreme. Huh,…for some reason, I thought that the Supremes played there also that same afternoon.
I was the only white boy in the audience and sat about the 10th row, center-right orchestra.
Another time, I also recall using the large men’s room at a swimming pool complex after a high school swim meet in a near-downtown “projects” buildings area and enjoyed some young men singing a very mellow, 4-part, harmonious tune with the resonance bouncing of the tile walls and floors. A lot of talent in Detoirt. Very cool.
Life is good.
