This is the greatest compilation of Hits I’ve ever heard. Great Job! I remember the original broadcast of the Hist of R&R on CKLW Radio 80. Would love to get the entire series of broadcasts.
Thanks for putting this together.
I have a complete set of 52 records plus a collection called satcom
Yes guys this is great keep em rolling!
Daryl, Welcome!
Thank you for dropping in and we’ll hope you’ll enjoy the visit each time you’ll stop by. Let others know we’re here so pass the word on. So come back Daryl and check out our 1960s “Flashback Ads” we’ll be posting right here tomorrow. More great radio stuff will be coming your way….
I am doing some research for a screenplay. I’m looking fir the names of some popular radio stations in the 1970’s in the Detroit area playing top 40 music.
Can anyone out there help me?
.
The original History of Rock and Roll. which broadcast on “The Big 8” in late winter 1969, is by far the most important radio event of my lifetime. I have been trying for decades to find somebody who has an “official” PLAYLIST from that 48-hour presentation. I feel entirely safe in saying that, if not for that show, I WOULD NOT have ever ended up selling old vinyl records for a living for, now, MOST OF MY LIFE. I’ve been doing it exclusively for 37+ years.
I do have a primitive and illiterate playlist for that show which, for example, identifies Elvis Presley MYSTERY TRAIN as “Train Arrive” by UNKNOWN ARTIST. Yes, that is absolutely illiterate. Also often the songs listed on the playlist are badly jumbled vis-a-vis the actual show, etc.
Does anybody know if such an original playlist exists anywhere?
Are you “SATURDAY NIGHT RECORDS” Frank Merrill? This is Frank Kisko (Echo). I have the complete HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL on LPs. Contact me at my email address if interested.
Frank (Echo?)
I have been looking for a copy of this show for 20 years. If any body can help me get a copy on MP3, CD or whatever, PLEASE by all means send me an email
HOLY SMOKES!! I haven’t checked on this website since 2015…and here’s your reply, which never reached me. Yes, the echo returns (and, with other Franks, has gotten aw far away as Western Australia…and I totally shocked him two years ago by just dropping in on him).
How have you been? Yes, reply to my email please…I might not see a reply otherwise. I lost touch with you and would love to visit again. I’ve been getting to New Jersey once or twice a year, lately. Um, wait, emails aren’t published…it’s fmerrilljr[AT]yahoo[DOTcom], last time we were in touch I was about two years away from getting on the internet.
I hope you see this, do write please.
I’ve been looking for this show for over 25 years! I’d LOVE to have a copy.
Looking for a download copy or CD ‘s of KHJ-History of Rock and Roll
Hi Frank, This is frustrating; I didn’t originally see your message until months later. I responded to it, and you didn’t see it. You asked me to reply to your email address, WHICH I’VE NEVER HAD, and you didn’t include it.
I’ve hoped for years to get back in touch, but I am stymied in every way; I can’t locate you in any way anymore.
Hopefully you’ll see this, and you hopefully CAN visit my website and get my email from there.
Frank
This might help. http://oldradioshows.com/network/hor&r69khj.html
Oh Frank, by the way, I assume that the show you have on vinyl LP’s is the show from the middle Seventies, correct? If you happen to actually have the LP’s from 1969 - which I didn’t even think existed - that would be wild, as it was the most important radio event in my lifetime. Of course I couldn’t reply to your email as you suggested, because emails aren’t published.
This “History of Rock and Roll” page is great. I remember listening to it back in 1969.
But where is the hour they had on ELVIS PRESLEY?
Am I looking in the right places. Please tell me where the section is on Elvis Presley.
Thank you
@Frank Kisko…Frank, please write to me. I’ve been trying to figure out for YEARS and years how to find you again. The last we “talked” I wasn’t on computers, but my postal address is still in effect.
William, I know there was a Presley hour, but the crude playlist I have shows his hour within the Country Music part, which is relatively early within the 48 hour total.
What I have doesn’t show where which hours start and end, though.
I remember listening to the original broadcast of CKLW’s The History of Rock and Roll when I was a student at Bowling Green University in the Spring of 1969. It kept us glued to our radio as we tried to predict some of the rankings that we would hear. The History started on a Friday afternoon and never ended until Sunday night. One great hit after another. I was thrilled to find this and other websites saluting the greatest radio station in history
I’ve been trying to find a copy of this show for over 25 years! Does anybody have a copy that I can get?
If you are looking for the History of Rock and Roll from 1969, I recorded the whole weekend of it. There is about 40 hours of it. I just hooked it up, and let it run…..commercials, news, etc, etc..I only came back to turn the tape over.Let me know if you are still looking for it.
Would love to get the 1969 version in digital form.
Regards,
Mark Yurko in Pa.
I would like to buy a copy from you. I am in PA also

If you happen to still have a copy of the 1969 KHJ History of Rock and Roll, I’d be interested in getting a copy.
I listened to the original live 48 hour KHJ Robert W. Morgan History of Rock and Roll. How/where can I get a copy of it? Dennis Barton .

Can I buy a copy of the show from you? I am in PA too.

Anyone know of a complete copy of “The Number One Radio Show”? It was produced by Drake Chenault about the same time as the 70s and 80s versions of History of R&R… Hosted by Mark Elliot and using parts of the same medley of number one songs.
