  1. Hi,

I’ve been trying to get a copy of J. P. McCarthy’s theme song “Have a Nice day” by County Basie but I can’t seem to find it. Do you know where or if I could find a copy?

    Thank You,
    Jim Wilson

      1. Greetings from a former Detroiter who grew up listening to JP. While the song “Have a nice day” (composed by Sammy Nestico) was indeed recorded and made famous by Count Basie, this was not the version used by JP on his morning show. JP used what seems like a newer arrangement, though I’ve never been able to identify the source or artist except on this YouTube video:

(Notice the trombones & saxophones instead of piano at the beginning, followed by a trmpet solo — a difference from Basie’s version.) Do you have that specific version and/or know who recorded it?

  2. just stumbled across Michael Shield bio of J.P.McCarthy, can’t put it down. New to Detroit in late ’55, started listening to JP mid ’56. Later listened to him simoulcasting w/ Wally Phillips after move to Chicago. Then capped off hearing him do national ads.
Question: do you know his very early theme song before Put on a Happy Face?
    Thanks

  3. I would love to have a copy of JP’s “Put on a Happy Face”, but don’t know who did it. Also loved the sibb GB n off I think for Jay Robert’s or someone with “That’s All”
    Thanks
