IS PAUL DEAD?

___

ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS KEENER MOMENTS was the Sunday afternoon in 1969 when WKNR-FM’s Russ Gibb amplified the rumor that Paul McCartney was dead. In this second “Best of” Podcast, we celebrate our interview with Andru Reeve, the man who wrote the definitive bookTurn Me On Dead Man: The Beatles and the Paul McCartney Death Hoax.” It became our most downloaded program. While the story had been well worn before Tom Zarski called Uncle Russ that October day, it was WKNR-FM’s coverage that rocketed the tale to the front of the nation’s consciousness. — c. AN UNKNOWN Is Paul Dead? RADIO BROADCAST (1969)

___

A MCRFB NOTE

The ‘rumor’ started here. By year’s end, 1969, many radio stations across the country were by then latching unto the question, “Is Paul Dead?,” its central premise based on rumors of Paul’s possible demise which were by then rampant by the end of October. This one particular radio piece, while it’s origin is unknown to MCRFB, covers ‘the rumor,’ of various clues told as significant — dropping further of more telling clues. The above audio portion is believed, possibly, to have emanated out of 77 WABC (the station having aired their own “Is Paul Dead?” broadcast) in New York, sometime during November, 1969.
