Ernie Harwell passed away on May 4, 2010. He was known as “the voice of the Detroit Tigers” for over 40 years. He called his last Tiger game in Toronto, on September 29, 2002. In 1981, Harwell was awarded baseball’s most prestigious Ford C. Frick Award.

He became only the fifth baseball broadcaster enshrined into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Hello, Jo-Jo Shutty MacGregor here. Just a quick note about the CKLW Charity Tribute event happening today, Saturday, July 14, as we also will reflect back on the 51th Anniversary of the BIG 8 Format here in the Motor City, and the launch of Charlie O’Brien’s big8radio.com 

Detroit radio history records back when it was spring/summer 1967 when the Big 8 debuted on CKLW.

Another year since having passed, once again we are delighted to inform you the VFW Bruce Post 1146 will be holding a FREE party at their lodge and property at 28404 Jefferson Avenue in St. Clair Shores, MI –- GOING ON TODAYJuly 14 — from 12 NOON – 6:00 pm.

All proceeds from food and raffles in this event will go to Ronald McDonald Charities of Detroit.
