Interesting article. I think another reason Purtan left Q95 was because the station was becoming a more CHR-driven hot AC during this time, and Purtan couldn’t relate to that kind of music anymore. I’ve been doing some research of Q95’s music rotation during this period from issues of Radio and Records magazine via the World Radio HIstory website, and I’ve noticed they were playing more CHR appeal songs such as the Goo Goo Dolls “Name”, the Gin Blossoms “‘Til I Hear It From You”, and TLC’s “Waterfalls” with Purtan still aboard. At least Danny Bonaduce was able to keep the Q afloat for a couple of years after Purtan’s departure to WOMC.
I Think that the real reason why Dick left WKQI, is because the Q95 that he knows and loves was gone all CHR once again.
