While working there with Tom Knight and Deano Day I can truly say I had more fun there than while at WOMC!
We had the pleasure if actually talking with our listeners and playing songs they wanted to hear! WOW what great memories!

what happened to the HONEY Mobile yellow car? this was perhaps long before Annual “Woodward Dream Cruise” was ever heard of! that was WHND Radio one and omly promotional vehicle! too cheap for a Logo Van!! (Lol)
Victor, I recall several years back that the former Honey Radio iconic, yellow and orange flamed 1957 Chevy “Sunshine” was eventually sold by its owner (Arnie Martin) here and is currently owned (well, at least at the time I had read it) by a private owner and the WHND ’57 cruiser resides today out of state somewhere, in Pennsylvania.
Hi Jim Filiciano: (Any relation to Jose?) forgive me for taking so long responding. I do not check this alot; thanks for reply; glad for memories, nostalgia, Oldies music & radio! Hope to see the Yellow Honey Promo Car vehicle in “Woodward Dream Cruise” some year in summer – I attended a radio reunion a couple years ago , that was nice; Tim Nixon & Jon Ray😃. I do recall Arnie Martin years ago in 1988, but sadly Tom Knight, Bob Allison, Robin Seymore and perhaps Tom Ryan have passed onward to Heaven, so enjoy life and trust in God! You know, radio pros never really retire,, there are Union Pensions of course ,, but why sit in rocking chair listening? Just get in the digital box, (do voice overs) and groove,,,, Peace. “TheVic” (Radio Legend) March 29, 2023
I miss the music, hosts and the fact it wasn’t programmed selections, something different all day long. Wish it would come back…. and am sure I’m not alone in this!
HAY LISA, I AGREE 100% !!! I WAS LISTENING TO A TAPE OF RICHARD DS’ TOP 12 AT 12,I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS A PLACE TO WRITE TO.SURE GLAD I LOOKED. BRING BACK HONEY RADIO !!! NOTHING LIKE IT ANYMORE. THE BEST OLDIES TO YOU LISA.GARY FROM CLINTON TOWNSHIP…
Lisa, if you go to WCXI 1160 am, you will find Jimmy James, doing requests of oldies…50’s and 60’s…he is on different times during the week…Mon. 1-3:30, Tue, Wed, & Thu 8-10, and 12-1, Fri 2-5…the call in number is 248-557-1460…his time slots are not formatted…..it’s mostly requests…
Thanks for the tip on WCXI. I’d like to thank anyone affiliated with that wonderful Honey radio. As I was born in December of 1959, much of the music was before my time, but fortunately for me, not for my father. As we spent much time over the years working together, he and Honey Radio introduced me to so,e wonderful music. Now at the ripe old age of 56 and Dad and Mom passed on, I continually put together my own cds much like Homey played. And I drive alone, listen to some wonderful music and remember some great times.
I worked at Honey Radio from 1983 to 1994 as a board op. A board op runs the controls while the dj is broadcasting live remote area. I loved Honey Radio and all the disc jockeys and the Honey partys. I wish they would bring it back. The baby boomers are still here and would have a widespread listener span. What a great radio station under the program director Richard D. Haase.
” Richard D.” did a superb job in his ” top twelve at twelve” lunchhour show in the nineties. I heard great, long lost tunes on that show that were big local hits, back in the day.
I have been trying to get a picture of Tom knight the former DJ of Honey Radio.
I know Tom was killed in Brighton Mi. in 1997.
He was a friend of mine and we did some shows together with my singing group.
Wow, what memories! I was the first PD for Honey Radio when we took the station live in 1980. I’d been doing the morning show across the hall on Magic 95 prior to that. It’s amazing how hearing it takes me back. I have aurchecks on cassette….someplace!
i enjoy listening to Honey radio it was the main favorite station i ever listen to along with CKLW Tower 92 Kiss FM i misssed the stations and everyone of them but it will lives on in my memory
I am 40 yrs old and i grew up listening to honey radio!itwas my mom and dad that introduced me to such wonderful music.my mother is in her 60’s now but still listens to oldies but goodies and frequents classic car shows in the deep south now!
I have a couple of pictures of Tom Knight ….real name Tom Margellar( not real good ) from the news of his record auction in the Detroit Free Press……2-19-99. Although I never met him, talked to him many times when calling in to WOMC sat. night oldies party ( Joey Ryan’s show ) He was a class-act and a pleasure to talk to. Anyone from the oldies scene in the Detroit- area remembers him. He WILL NOT be forgotten! GOD Bless you Tom, Ed from Wayne.
Richard D. START UP HONEY RADIO AGAIN !!!IT WAS THE BEST STATION ANYWHERE !!! I’M LISTENING TO A TAPE OF YOU DOING THE TOP 12 AT 12… YOU AND BIGGIE BRYAN AND ALL THE D.J’S ARE REALLY MISSED !!!!!

I also want to thank LOU LOU,RICHARDS’ HELPER AND ALL THE STAFF WHO MADE HONEY RADIO, I SAY AGAIN “THE BEST “I THOUGHT YA SHOULD HAVE WENT FM,BUT ON THAT TAPE COULD HEAR THE STATIC FROM A STORM,I USED TO GET UPSET ABOUT THAT, BUT NOW HEARING IT,REALLY MAKES ME REALIZE, I DIDN’T CARE ABOUT THE WEATHER, JUST THE GREAT SHOWS!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL,ALWAYS. GARY, FROM CLINTON TWP. ( THAT’S IN MICHIGAN ) AS YOU SAID IN ONE OF YOUR SHOWS …PS I STILL HAVE A HONEY KEY CHAIN, GETTING KINDA WORN OUT,HAVE ANY EXTRA ONES LAYING AROUND? ??
I love this older music. The Moose of Moose and Da Sharks announced Jackie Wlson at Masonic Temple, February 12. 1975 which was Gary Ballard Production. Does anyone happen to have that footage?
THANKS JIM: I seen the message regarding the Cool Promo Yellow WHND (Honey-car) it was spiffy. Perhaps the fella or person who bought the ride in Pennsylvania may bring it to Woodward Dream Cruise one year. That would be Legendary. VIC.
Our station WPON is the heir apparent to Honey Radio. Jimmy James is still spinning the vinyl on his own show on PON daily. Also, he’s been with the Rock & Roll Lawyer show for 10 years. He makes up 1/2 of the Brain Trust with the Professor. The tag line for WPON is “The Other Station’s Plays Our Leftovers. It is truer today than ever. Sheldon Kay “The Rock & Roll Lawyer”
Looking for info on a 4 record box set titled Honey Home Jukebox from Honeyradio WHND AM 56. Side 1 of 1 Sweet Little Sixteen by Chuck Berry and ending on side 2 of 4 Love Can Make You Happy by Mercy. Produced by Buzz Curtis Phoenix Products, Inc. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Victor, enjoyed reading your text on my site, although I just read it today, one week late! So I apologize, as at times, it is life that will catch up to you later than sooner, if you know what I mean. No . . . I do get asked that question many of time, related only by our last name! Lol, but anyway, I too miss those Honey Radio days when it was on the radio dial, spanning some, oh, three decades. The “oldies” format is virtually obsolete on mainstream radio, at least so it is in the SE Michigan market. The captive audience today does not care to listen to those “oldies but goodies” in general and so the corporate heads know what the younger audience will rather listen to nowadays. Yes, I missed Tom Knight, and it still brings sadness to me as he was a friend of mine and so tragic how he died. Tom was such a significant production core and influence to anything Honey Radio played in the early-1980s about the format was dropped on the FM side and went totally AM with live jocks for some, I believe, 19 years in the Motor City. Thank you kindly, Vic, for your constant dedication and support for Motor City Radio Flashbacks. Have any Detroit radio airchecks you may want to possibly share for the site? Let me know.
Hi Jim: I just seen this script you wrote! Ferocious, prolific writer! Care to do some writing copy-edit demos on some great radio (& audio TV commercials?) Man. I am glad we can correspond and yes I do enjoy this site ,, cool. Anyway, be happy when the big shots in the Union AFRTA-SAG figure out a solution soon , it may help. So, yes if there was anyway could bring at least a radio feature program to the airwaves or get a radio company to get a station to generate Oldies songs. ,,, this would be beautiful (like STAR-97 came close) would rather hear and play Swing music of 40s instead of hip-hop or Rap whatever this is 50s 60s 70s , of course ,yet over forums within “digital” ,I do see young people saying how much they are intrigued by these down-to -earth songs about friends, love and sweet romance and the rest. Sure Kept my mind right. Early top40 CHR be-bop!! If you recall Kev O’Neil,, he’s still around, he play “Lost Gold”. He is/was at wJr. Yet try 440 that’s a good place to find aircheqes. I may have some earlier ones of the 80s doing mainstream airtime. Btw I was living and working in west Michigan, GR when Tom passed, was at a McDonalds reading morning paper , in Dutton, MI , saw the news. ;before we spin records and do Limbo on Harsens Island; Him and I would also pray on our knees in church often , and that was when he was with Jan. We lost touch around 1990. Him and I had not seen each other for several years since 1989. That’s why we have radio reunions,, the souls of great legends are certainly in Rock ‘n Roll Heavens hof. Hi Jim: how’s it going? There is only one radio Oldie station playin’ airing authentic Oldies. That’s WPON, owner is Mr Barach and understand although not Detroit but heard in the “D” area suburbs is CKWW – the big 8 from Windsor, Ontario. Yet unfortunately, not even close to being the sounds and personalities of WHND-560 (Honey) once was. Coolest station on the dial then, frequency bought by Mr Crawford years ago. Drop me a line.
