ERNIE DURHAM’S WJLB RHYTHM AND BLUES: JULY 1962 A WJLB FLASHBACK MOMENT: “Frantic” Ernie Durham, legendary Detroit R&B disk jockey was on Detroit’s WJLB-AM every evening until 9:00 p.m. Durham was one of the first “rappers,” in a literal sense, who did most of his shows in rhyme. Here, he was photographed at the famous Madison Ballroom in 1958, a block down from the Graystone in Detroit.
