This was one of the saddest situations in Detroit radio history.
WHNE was the coolest set of call letters ever; they were perfect! The FM station (94.7, if I recall correctly) only lasted a year or so, becoming WMJC and playing easy-listening music. The AM sister station, 560, lasted for decades, but with the not-anywhere-NEAR-as-cool call letters of WHND. Oh well, at least we had a good station which featured real Detroit-chart oldies… but just on AM.
