I miss our Jazz music in Detroit. We do need it back so how.

Grew up here, visiting family this weekend.I cannot believe there is no jazz in Detroit. More than a sad situation.
As you good people work to bring the beautiful city back, please bring back a new version of WJZZ. There is great depth to the SOUL of Detroit and jazz is an important part of that soul.

I so miss wjzz and Rosetta Hines, she was my absolute favorite. I miss the other dj’s as well but Ms Hines was it for me. Miss that feel good music.

I feel exactly the same way Major. I feel bad that I don’t remember all of the dj’s. I stumbled upon this site looking for a list of dj’s. Tony Weaver and Simone Coleman come to mind, but I should remember more from the late 60’s (WCHD). I met Rosetta twice, she had such a positive and happy personality. I’m more than thankful for this site. I still have my WJZZ shirt from the 80’s 🙂

I miss WJZZ, with the greatest D.J’s. in the world. Although Rosetta Hines, was my favorite I really enjoyed the music played by the other DJs which made me feel so alive. Today I listen to WJZZ on YouTube, and enjoy the nostalgic emotions it give me from the beautiful music of yesterday.
Ms. Rosetta Hines was my favorite too. My father and I listened to her all of the time. I miss her.
How can I get a copy of the playlist that Rosetta Hines used to play. She made my entire day when she came on, I just set the radio and enjoyed the music for the rest of the day
yes, i too miss wjzz and 107.5 wgpr, as it use to sound back in the day when ms. rosetta hines was on. not forgetting the other dj hosts i truly love to hear. ah yes, those were indeed the days. i do ms, rosetta hines. it is a shame that we do not hear music like we use to on radio these days. the musical format was totally change on us so quickly. i am glad we have youtube, google and others to enjoy what was. i am so disappointed in radio now, i hardly listen to music anymore. all that use to be is dead and gone. again, i say what a disappointment in radio.

it’s good to hear wjzz. where on this website or another can i find more memories of wjzz i am enjoying the music. i do appreciate what is played now, but why did you just play her whole show that day so we could listen to all the music, instead listening to bits of it. i am sure you listen to rosetta hines and the others. so i wish you could have taped a whole show of at least one of them. i really would love to listen to all the songs that were played, instead of bits and pieces of them and hearing the commerials. there were more commerials, than music in my opinion. but in spike of all of this in my comment, i do thank you for posting the memories. i do so miss detroit’s own wjzz.

We would have loved to have the entire segment as you would have enjoyed it as well, but we had acquired the Rosetta Hines tape years back “as is,” it was how the tape was shared to us and, but we were simply delighted in acquiring something on her, with her great memorable soothing voice having heard it on the radio, while on the legendary WJZZ for years. Glad you enjoyed the memories and thank you so much for commenting. Detroit, we miss WJZZ and WVMV V 98.7 Smooth Jazz on the radio!

I was able to listen to WJZZ Radio http://www.live365.com under the Jazz category. The “station” is dedicated to Miss Rosetta Hines. Although it’s not exactly actual JZZ broadcasts, it’s been beautiful music!

I think we (Detroit) needs a smooth jazz station to give a variety of good quality music to listen too. I am not a fan of fm98 WJLB. ‘m putting them down but I do miss turning on the radio too listen some good jazz.
Rosette Hines was the”IT” for me,I was a teen when I first heard on wjzz back in the mid 70″s.I enjoyed Shariki and terry carter and herman haines,But Rosetta was it.Where is she?Peace T in Detroit/

I too miss the WJZZ and WGPR days. I wish someone would bring this type of music back to the airwaves.
I was one of the jocks at both WCHD, WGPR and WJZZ back in the sixties. Some of my colleagues were Ed Love, Bill Johnson, Cady Bebe, The Soul Pastor, Bobby D, Jo Rae and others. Those were the days of long ago and I, too, miss them. I moved on to WRIF and WJBK TV where I worked for five years before moving into voice telecommunications in both healthcare and state government. I spent ten years with The Sisters of Mercy at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac before moving on to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor and finally retiring from state service in Lansing in 2017 after almost thirty years. It was a good run while it lasted.

You were & are the best. Typed this the same night our other famous lady,(Carmen Harlan), did her last broadcast at WDIV-TV4 giving us 38 cherished yrs on 11/11/2016. If this is true you are now on WDET-FM then, I will find you on the dial & pass it along. P.S. how’s your sister doing who worked at the former Skylark’s B-B-Q that used to be at 8 Mile & Wyoming?.. I have sirrus xm radio in my car and they have two jazz stations, one is contemporary & the other is traditional, they’re good jazz stations but they can’t touch WJZZ put together!
I also to miss wjzz 105.9 at 12 Monday through Friday Rosetta Hines always used to play East River Drive by by Stanley Clarke. Sometimes it was hard to call and request a songs for Rosetta Hines to play but I finally got in around 1997 I was at work. To me Rosetta Hines will be always be the best voice on radio miss you.
Hadn’t heard the name Rosetta Hines since 1978. The mere mention of her name made the hairs on my head stand on end. Now greater, smoother or more sultry voice for jazz than Ms. Hines.

Dorian lost his job at WJZZ in the ’80s. He died not long thereafter.
I liked Carla Fox. And truly miss Sun Down. The weekly guide to current events in and around town. The weekly guest artist, that they would play once every hour for a week.
I moved to Detroit in August of 1974, WJZZ blew My Mind. I recieved My Greatest Music Education from The Great WJZZ. From Big Band, to Standard, Bee Bop to Cool Jazz to many Artists to name. WJZZ was and is a Institution of Jazz, It is so sad Ican’t enjoy it any more when I make my anual trip to Detroit. Mrs. Rosetta Hines Sexy Sultry voice will always live in my memory as She played cut after cut. I loved all the other DJ’s as well. WJZZ is definitley missed but those Tunes will be with Me until the end. Thank You WJZZ for being The Force of Positivity that You Were.You were simply The Best.

I miss Rosetta Hines and her them song: “The Girl Of My Dreams” by Funk Incorporated. Detroit had a jazz station that anyone who came to Detroit fell in LOVE with our MUSIC. Rosetta was our Smooth Operator. WJZZ (those were days).

I listened with great pleasure to WJZZ back in the day(1970’s) . Rosetta Hines and Ed Love were two of the most popular voices,but there were others that I just can’t recall. If there is someone that could fill in the blanks for me and others,that would be great!!! Dorian Pastor was another. TIA. JODY
I lived in Plymouth, listened to WJZZ beginning in 1972. There were other DJ’s but it’s Rosetta’s name I remember. Met her in 1974, when she came to my high school to hear our jazz band. We played ahead of Maynard Ferguson that year. I moved to the Irish Hills in ’88, could still pick up WJZZ. Before I moved to Georgia in 1990, I called the station and reached Rosetta! She was shocked to know that the station could be heard in Jerome Michigan.
I miss the jazz and, …… Sibley’s can fit anybody!
