Robbie Dee was also on the radio in Pittsburgh at WZUM 1590 also a soul station in 1969. I heard he had a singing group named Robbie D and the robbetts. Thelma Tompkins was a member of the group and I was told he married her any information? Thank you I enjoy your site.
I was surfing the Net and stumbled on this site. First, I want to thank Philip Zmenkowski for remembering.
I was Robbie D.
Yes, I worked at WZUM in Pittsburgh which, back in the day was an R&B station. Prior to Taking the job at WCHB in Detroit I worked at WAMO in Pittsburgh. While at WCHB, I used to think of myself as the Porky Chedwick of Detroit. After leaving WCHB I went on to work at WIBG in Phildalphia, then to WYDD in Pittsburgh before leaving the business.
And yes, Telma Hopkins was a member of the group and sang on the only record we released, which was produced by the great Don Davis. Telma and I did marry. While the marriage was short lived, we’ve remained friends. She now lives in Los Angeles.
