  1. I came by JAZZ with my Mother’s 45rpm JAZZ copy of Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five” and JAZZ clips I heard. on T.V. shows: M-Squad and Peter Gunn respectively.
In 1963, a beloved friend and mentor introduced me to Jim Rockwell , WABX.
He was JAZZ ; he set the mood with his voice and comments.
“These are records . This is JAZZ.” This is how Jim Rockwell began and ended his show.
In my opinion, there were three great JAZZ PURISTS,AMBASSADORS during the 1960s:
ED LOVE-WCHD FM ; Jack Surrell–WJLB FM; JIM ROCKWELL–WABX FM.

  2. Thanks Joe,

First heard Rockwell as a can’t sleep 4 year old. Stayed up while mom ironed, dad worked midnights. His show drifted over the airwaves from Rochester, NY to Michigan. He’d say, “This is Rockwell and these are records.” Mom crooned. My very first favorite DJ.

    Vince
