I’m a Baby Boomer and remember WKMH from the late 50’s when I started developing an interest in Rock n’ Roll. In the early 60’s WXYZ (1270) and CKLW (800) were giving WKMH major competition and as a result were losing in the ratings. That changed with new management and on air pesonalities (D.J’s) ckanging their call letters to WKNR (Keener Radio) beginning on Halloween 1963. There were contests and the listener was felt to be part of the sensation. Within 1 year WKNR was the number 1 AM top 40 station in the Detroit market.
