  1. I have a cottage up north and have listened to Lite 96.3 out of Petoskey for years. One Saturday afternoon in June when I was riding in the car, I immediately recognized a familiar voice on the radio; it was no other than Jim Harper. I still cannot believe that Jim Harper of WNIC fame and fortune is up in Petoskey. Check him out!

  2. Welcome to you, Jim Harper! I also made the Great Northern Migration after teaching for 38 years and retiring in June from Plymouth-Canton Schools. I happened to find your station while out doing errands on a Saturday, and thought I heard a familiar voice. I listened to you for years when only way out to work each morning. Hope you’re enjoying the fantastic view up here, as My hubby and I are!

  8. Hi Jim. It was a pleasant surprise to hear your familiar voice here in Traverse City. Not sure if you remember me from back in the WDRQ days when I worked the front desk there. That was a very long time ago. Hope you and Lynn are enjoying the north.

  9. Hey Ann,
Of course I remember you! So nice to hear from you. Wow!…that was a couple of years ago, wasn’t it? I didn’t know much back then, but we sure learned a lot together, didn’t we? WDRQ was a great station back then. So grateful for Motor City FlashBacks for helping us keep Detroit Radio alive.-Jim

  14. Hi Mr. Harper!
My husband and I moved up here to Traverse City a year and a half ago. (Like you, for retirement)
A couple of weeks ago, I was frantically searching the dial thinking there’s got to be a station up here that is playing Christmas music 24/7. Found it and then found you on Saturday! I knew I recognized your voice, but until you said your name, I wasn’t quite sure. So happy to have found you and will continue to listen to you & the station. What a wonderful flashback of memories growing up in Sterling Hgts. with you jammin’ the tunes! One great memory I’ll share, working at an event for toys for tots in Warren, during our office Christmas party.
Thank you for all the time, energy, money & help you have given to all the communities that you’ve lived in & now spreading your cheer in Northern Michigan.

  15. Thank you for you nice thoughts and comments. I’m just happy to be helping out Up North and so glad you like the station and what we all do. Wishing you Health and Happiness in the New Year. -Jim

  16. Thank you so much for the kind words and the great memories. It was quite an era in Detroit Radio and we were lucky to work with many talented people who had glorious careers.

  17. Thrilled that you are back. Missed your radio show. Sure miss your in person shows for toys for toys, my daughter and I attended many of them. Do you know what ever happened to the young lady that worked with your group and married a policeman and moved to Port Huron.

  18. I loved your shout-out to my Southfield-Lathrup High School 50 yr. reunion! (How many years??!) That was a really fun surprise. You still sound and look great!

  19. Many years ago Jim while you were PD at WNIC FM. Keener 13 AM briefly came back as WWKR. You listened to an aircheck of mine. You gave me encouragement only being in Fremont, Ohio. You said you listen carefully to announcers in medium markets as Grand Rapids, Flint and Lansing. I left radio full time later after moving to Las Vegas. Tip of the cap to you. Love Michigan after all these years. Residing weekends near Sandusky. Oh. I listened to Detroit radio more than hometown Cleveland at times.
