WHAT!? NO NEWSPAPERS??
___
When WJR released this ad in July, 1968, both major Detroit newspaper dailies were still locked in a prolong strike, seemingly with no end in sight. Friday, November 17, 1967 was the last day of publication at the two unionized papers.
The following day workers at the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News walked out — on strike — at 12 midnight on November 18. After 267 days, 12 days after this WJR ad went to print, the presses rolled once again at the two Detroit dailies on Saturday, August 10, 1968.
