Toby Arnold: MARTHA “THE QUEEN” JEAN STEINBERG!
Toby Arnold Jingle Singers: WJLB!
Mitch Craig: Detroit!
I am so proud to be able to accept this award honoring the contributions of my mother, Pioneer and Radio icon, Martha Jean “The Queen”.
Though known in the entertainment industry, Queen’s legacy is largely an untold piece of history. In the mid-1950s, she gave opportunities in radio to young talents like Isaac Hayes at WDIA in Memphis before his recording career. She cut a path for young talents who learned radio, not only as an entertainment & sales medium, but as an tool to inform, educate and inspire. She was a role model and moral compass for all who knew her.
Encourager to the Blue Collar Workers of America, a social figure for women’s causes, a voice of reason during upheaval and the ’67 rebellion, The Queen was also a bridge of communication between torn factions of the city, calling for accountability of officials and the law right there on the air. Martha Jean “The Queen” knew THE POWER OF RADIO.
Love The Queen, Miss the Queen, need to keep her message and teachings alive!
What a wonderful honor! Her legacy lives on with this NBRHOF induction, through Diane, and family. So proud of our Queen. Rest and rejoice in heaven!
Martha Jean The Queen was FIRST to do so many things that truly mattered and made a difference in radio. This induction is the cherry on the sundae of her long and illustrious career. No time like the present to give Martha Jean her props!
Long overdue, recognition to The Queen, a Legend in Radio, a pioneer in Radio, who deserves To be Celebrated and remembered, for her commitment to the Detriot community, her dedication to Excellence, and Spiritual teaching to her TOFM ministry. Detriot is not the same without her voice. Her 12 noon Inspiration Time, and countless other, self help radio shows are truly missed. The voice of guidance to many. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who followed her sound advice. Long Live the Queen.
