A rare ABC/WXYZ Radio brochure from early-1963. The featured flyer was distributed freely for station visitors, clients, sales staff, and media personnel. The Broadcast House studios was located on Ten Mile Rd., near Northwestern Hwy., in Southfield, Michigan.

It truly was a beacon and the place every aspiring radio and TV person wanted to work. It was my dream. At this writing ( 7.21.21) only Dave Prince and I are still around. Fred, Paul, and brother Joel are gone. Incidentally the news man in the photo is Ed Hardy, my dear friend ( now deceased ) and the first in Detroit to report the assassination of president Kennedy. Ed went on to becme news director at WABC in New York,
I do not remember ever seeing this brochure and it certainly brings back memories. Blessings to all those people who were there at Broadcast House from a guy who lived his dream.
Lee Alan is spot on! To work at WXYZ was the dream of many a Michigan broadcaster including me. The dream came true for me when Ed Hardy hired me as summer replacement news anchor and write in 1963, the year of this brochure. By September I’d become full time, doing the news and traffic reports for Fred Wolf in morning drive. To work with Fred, Paul, Joel, Lee, Don, Dave, Ed and the rest of the talented staff was to work with the best.

Yes, Broadcast House. And occasionally I still listen to Lee reading his book. I was there, news, in the summer of 1965. Marc Avery said he loved my weekly early morning hour of music. Said I should be doing that instead of news. News Director Al Koski (and I don’t blame him) sent me walking after about three months. Then it was off to the U.S. Army including Vietnam. Career eventually became TV weather. Hello, Bob, and thank you Lee for the memories.
