Having been part of Motor City Radio Flashbacks from its early inception (and being non-radio related), the titled subjects (I feel) to be removed has outlived their space and time, here. Instead, the intended purpose of this site will focus on classic Detroit radio and subject matter (or anything else relevant to), which is why this website was created in the first place and moving forward will be about.

The dotted title sequence (i.e., WXYZ.Joey.Reynolds.August.16.1966) found on many of the airchecks previously was eliminated during the re-upload process. Adding dots is no longer required on certain files to upload today, as it was added on some of the audio files in 2012. And many of the misspellings found in the title of some of the audio files have been corrected and re-titled.
The site’s repository today now holds over 1,000 airchecks archived and listed!
Completed and finished yesterday evening (February 22), it took 34 days to completely rebuild the Aircheck page in its entirety. It was here where I have been spending much of my time (since Jan 18) instead of on the website on a daily basis.
The good news, I will no longer worry whether this last surviving page (a hold-over from the old 2012 platform, the updated PHP upgrades finally killed it) will abruptly crash on this site anytime soon, if ever. This new rebuilt page on this current 2022 platform will prevent that from happening again.
And so I am happy to say the page is now back up again. Easier to navigate. Better than before . . . . it is all finally done! 🙂
With the exception of a few pages not having been affected, this site is now in the process of uploading all the audio files missing from our site’s page menus on our home page.

_______________
That’s quite a lot to rebuild.
The good news is we haven’t lost anything. I will re-upload every single file from our backed-up folders, which will take some time.
I apologize for this temporary inconvenience.
The old plugin we have been using, ‘List ‘Yo Files‘ (we have used it on this site since January 2012) which listed the entire Commercials folder/files with bullet points (and the above 17 other file pages listed here), as of today, the old plugin will not be in use with the new WordPress PHP security 7.3 upgrade. (If I chose to reactivate its use, the site will not function properly. Older and outdated plugins — not kept updated by the responsible party — can disrupt normal operations or create issues to any site, such as having experienced, according to WordPress).
We were aware for some time that the plugin’s upgrades (by the plugin’s creator) apparently has stopped for some years already.
No longer PHP upgrade compatible, the audio files which the plugin supported was deactivated by WordPress to bring the site back to its normal operations. And along with the plugin’s deactivation went the audio folders and files.
This has happened before. The only remedy was to revert the PHP to an earlier number (in the last case it was reverting back to PHP 5.4 last November). WordPress will not do that any more. Realized, the out-dated plugin essentially outlived its purpose on this site after WordPress elevated the site’s PHP security code to 7.3 — a must requirement — sometime on September 30.
Please bear with me as I begin to manually rebuild these pages, working from the top down, as they were previously featured here (but please be mindful, either or — between posting daily features on the site and dealing with the task at hand — these uploads will be taking much time as well. The above noted three will take the most time).
Also, in lieu of all this, there may be some days during the week you may not find new posts and features on this page. On certain days I will be working more in expediting the files back up on this site (there is no one else running this website — only me).
We will inform all our Motor City Radio Flashbacks friends when each task has been completed. Thank you for understanding. Thank you for your patience.
Passing a short note to inform our friends we will be away all next week for a late-summer break — but will be back here on Motor City Radio Flashbacks on Monday, September 20.
But be advised, this website remains open 24/7, always. And just maybe you may find something of interest here you might have missed, there’s really much to see here!
This site has already amassed over 6,150 posts and features to date, since January 2012. Thank you for your visits, contributions and your support! In the meantime, and until then, keep it right here. There’s more to come . . . on Motor City Radio Flashbacks! 🙂
THANK YOU FOR VISITING MOTOR CITY RADIO FLASHBACKS
NEW COUNTER! JUNE 24, 2021
_______________
Numbers do count! We now have a brand-new counter. We wanted to grasp a more comprehensive, visitor numbers count for this site and I am delighted to say it has been found. The plugin is called — Awesome Visitor Counter — and according to the plugin’s WP page, it is “The Best Visitor Counter Plugin for WP.”
You will note as well the plugin also provides a count number below each featured post. It is a significant rolling count now tagged below every exhibit on every page. Now over 600 pages to date!
The latest counter launched, 6:00 pm, Thursday, June 24. And thanks to you, the numbers keep growing with every visit to this site. Take a look. You can see the latest count numbers located at the left-bottom of the site’s page.
Again, thank you so much. You made Motor City Radio Flashbacks what it is today. As you can see now, the latest site’s numbers certainly reflect well of that. 🙂
Today, we’ll begin bidding farewell to our WordPress Daily Post theme. It is the very layout on this webpage you have been looking at since the site’s inception (by our late-George Griggs, founder) on January 27, 2012.
Lately, due to several “behind-the-scenes” issues the website has been dealing with in the second half of the year, it is now reality our theme can no longer sustain vital, much required, dated upgrades, apparently.
The “No Comments”, long having been realized on this website for some months now (read here), may just well stem from using our current Daily Post ‘theme’, it is more than likely just “out-dated”, having ran its designed course, not able to handled current website tech fixes as well (as I was recently informed by a Bluehost tech).
And despite the recent WordPress 5.0 upgrades, the theme has failed time and again to uphold the latest updates and several other important WordPress plugins and security changes overall. In short, by keeping the Daily Post theme, it has become more realistic the “missing comments” will not be returning at all — if we continue using the site’s Daily Post theme.
Last week, Motor City Radio Flashbacks went off-line for some extended time (37 minutes!) just after the 2:00 p.m. hour, Friday, November 12 (see below). Unbeknownst to me, Bluhost attempted an upgrade with the theme’s PHP security codes (we have been stuck at PHP 5.6) with their latest version, 7.4. It didn’t work (and this happened before). The tech then had to revert back to the old PHP 5.6 version to get the site back online. PHP security upgrades are essential for all WordPress sites and blogs.
In lieu of that happening, same day, I tried to reach out to the theme’s developers, courtesy of WordPress, to let them know their Daily Post theme needed to be reviewed and most likely needed to be updated (obviously!). I also informed them I still wanted to keep their theme we have been using all these years.
Thus far, not a word in response from their end as of this writing.
As of this coming Friday, the hammer is coming down. Bluhost informed me last week that the PHP 7.4 security upgrade will become mandatory — will take immediate effect, November 20.
Bluhost, in somewhat strong, but kind terms, suggested I should replace our Daily Post with a newer theme. Looks like we have no choice.
Sometime this coming Thursday, November 19, Motor City Radio Flashbacks will have a different look. Our new WordPress theme will be Twenty Fifteen. Having already previewed the selected theme (and the good news — all your posted comments will be visible and back up!!) the layout will look somewhat as close as possible to our (soon-departed) Daily Post theme.
So long, Daily Post. Has it been nearly nine years? It was very good to us . . . indeed, while it lasted.
