LONDON — The Animals, one of the hottest groups on records, will begin a tour of the United States late this month. The group, whose single, “House Of The Rising Sun,” is on the charts in Australia, Britain, and Europe and hit the No. 5 position on the Billboard Hot 100 in just three weeks, will find MGM Records promotion executives in the U.S. not in idle.
The group will be met at the airport by fan club members, who will wear special buttons. A motorcade of Rolls Royce vehicles will speed the Animals to the city from Kennedy Airport. The British band will be hosted at trade and consumer press parties, as well as a formal gala party to which the society jet-set will be entertained by invitation.
Stan Getz, currently riding the charts with “The Girl From Ipanema,” is writing an original score for the group’s first film. Sid Bernstein and Marty Cummer, who presented a live show at the Paramount Theater earlier in April, are preparing a show starring The Animals for the Paramount, September 4-13 (sponsored by WMCA).
The theater, which has been closed for several weeks, will reopen especially for the Animals concert there before being converted into commercial offices. END
